Diablo III unofficial Android port

Diablo III Mobile is an unofficial Android adaptation of Diablo III: Eternal Collection for Nintendo Switch. Desm0nt’s project has downloadable APKs, touch controls, gamepad support and offline gameplay.

The technical approach needs a bit of explaining. The Switch game’s ARM64 code executes directly on Android’s CPU, without CPU emulation or a JIT compiler. Preparation tools patch instructions that cannot run unchanged on Android, while a compatibility layer supplies the Switch system services and translates NVN graphics calls into Vulkan.

So not quite a rebuild from the source code, but not an emulator either. Something in-between.

Please supply your own demons

You need your own Switch copy of Eternal Collection, the exact v1441792 update corresponding to patch 2.7.7, and your console’s prod.keys. Nothing you can download from GitHub includes game files or keys. PC and PlayStation copies understandably won’t work.

And you need a PC to prepare this, a Windows, Linux or macOS computer. The setup tools extract the files, patch the executable and translate the shaders. You then copy the resulting Diablo3Mobile folder into your Android device’s Download directory and install the APK.

The installation guide is pretty specific that you need at least 8 GB of RAM or more and around 17 GB of free storage. PC preparation needs roughly 20 GB, potentially around 35 GB with compressed inputs. English works without an additional language pack, but other packs can add another 5–6 GB each.

There are separate APKs for Android 12 and newer and Android 10–11. The older Android builds have yet to be tested.

Promising, even on older hardware

The dev reported 60 FPS during Act 1 on a Xiaomi 14 Ultra with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, Adreno 750 and Mesa Turnip. Later acts and long sessions have received less testing.

Controls are the standard run-of-the-mill floating stick, touch movement, skill buttons and Bluetooth or USB controllers. You can adjust the touch layer, export saves, choose 720p handheld or 900p docked rendering, and enable a widescreen mode that expands the view without stretching.

The latest release, v0.2.4-debug, should fix the black scenery beneath a visible HUD on non-Adreno GPUs. Should is the key word here as the fix was checked on Adreno with simulated Mali settings, not on real Mali hardware. Xclipse and PowerVR compatibility also remains experimental. Snapdragon users are told this debug release changes nothing for them.

Gameplay is offline single player with local saves. Battle.net co-op, seasons and clans are unavailable.

The project also credits nxnative, nx2android, BOTWRecompAndroid, RedMadKnight’s D3CPKUnpack, the Ryujinx shader translator, libadrenotools, AMD’s RCAS sharpening and Mesa Turnip builds from The412Banner.
