Rogue Legacy C debuts on Miyoo Mini Plus
Rogue Legacy C has its first public release for Miyoo Mini Plus running OnionOS. Developer misotrap released v0.1 on November 6, with most of the game reportedly running at 60 FPS on the handheld. The family curse now fits in your pocket.
This is a native C++17 adaptation of the original Rogue Legacy, built from the officially released C# source code. It runs directly on the Miyoo’s hardware, without a console emulator. Despite the project’s name, the implementation uses C++, and there is no Android build listed.
For anyone unfamiliar with the original, Rogue Legacy sends successive generations of adventurers into a dangerous castle. Each death passes the job to another heir, with different traits and a growing collection of permanent upgrades.
Small knight, unfinished business
The project lists generated castle areas, enemies, bosses, manor upgrades, equipment, heirs, special rooms and New Game Plus among the implemented systems.
However, v0.1 still has missing pieces. Dragon flight and flight equipment are unfinished, alongside the second shooting gallery, the diary entry list and parts of the ending and boss rematch content.
Sound was also newly added to this release and still needs confirmation on the console. Treat this as an early public build, which still has plenty of stuff that need work.
Your own game files
The roughly 1.8 MB release download contains the program and launcher, but no commercial game assets. You need your own PC copy of Rogue Legacy.
Extract the release into the SD card’s App folder, creating App/RogueLegacyC. Preparing the assets requires a computer with Python 3, Git, a C++17 compiler and a shell. The repository’s make_assets.sh script converts the original game’s Content folder, and copy_assets.sh transfers the prepared files into the installed app.
Installation involves more than copying the original Content folder onto the card. Once prepared, launch RogueLegacyC from OnionOS’s Apps menu. If it fails, the app folder contains log.txt for troubleshooting.
Credit goes to misotrap for the adaptation and Cellar Door Games for the original game and released source. The project also supports desktop builds for Linux and macOS, while this first handheld release specifically targets Miyoo Mini Plus.
