Star Trek: Voyager Elite Force Has Been Ported to Android

A native Android port of Star Trek: Voyager Elite Force is now available. The project was recently shared by developer imjustadudegamer, who confirmed that both the game’s single-player campaign and Holomatch multiplayer component are now fully playable on Android devices.

Unlike running the game through Winlator or other PC compatibility layers, this is a native Android port. According to the developer, the project uses a Vulkan renderer instead of the original OpenGL implementation, resulting in surprisingly good performance even on older Android hardware.

About the game

Originally released in 2000 by Raven Software, Star Trek: Voyager Elite Force is a first-person shooter built on the Quake III Arena engine. You take control of Ensign Alex Munro, a member of Voyager’s Hazard Team, as you battle hostile aliens and explore dangerous locations during the ship’s journey through the Delta Quadrant.

The game became a fan favorite thanks to its combination of fast-paced shooting and authentic Star Trek storytelling. It is still regarded as one of the best Star Trek games ever made.

Two Separate Android Ports

The Android release consists of two separate applications.

The Holomatch version was built using source code from an existing Nintendo Switch port and allows players to enjoy the game’s bot filled multiplayer mode. The single player version required significantly more work, with the developer creating a decompiler to recreate much of the game’s logic for Android. As a result, the two ports are distributed separately and may have different bugs or limitations.

To play either version, users must provide original game data files from the GOG release of Star Trek: Voyager Elite Force. No game assets are included with the Android ports.

What does the community say

The announcement was met with excitement from the Android gaming and emulation community. Several users noted that they previously relied on emulation or Winlator to play Elite Force on mobile devices and welcomed the arrival of a native solution. Others expressed hope that similar projects could eventually bring titles such as Star Trek: Klingon Honor Guard and Elite Force II to Android.

For Android gamers interested in classic PC ports, Elite Force joins a growing list of native fan made projects that bring older Windows games to mobile devices without requiring traditional emulation.
