CHDroid 1.1.2 Update Adds ROM Patching, GC/Wii Support and More

CHDroid has received another update shortly after its first non-beta release. Version 1.1.2 introduces several new features aimed at retro gaming enthusiasts who manage and convert ROM collections directly on their devices. The update brings ROM patching support, GameCube and Wii ISO.DEC decoding, custom destination folders and improvements related to Android’s upcoming Play Store requirements.

What is CHDroid?

For those unfamiliar with the app, CHDroid is an Android utility designed to convert, compress and manage retro game disc images. Instead of using a PC and command line tools, you can convert formats such as ISO and BIN/CUE directly on your Android phone/device into CHD (Compressed Hunks of Data) files. CHD is widely used in emulation because it can significantly reduce storage requirements while remaining compatible with many popular emulators.

The tool became popular among Android handheld owners and phone gamers looking to save space without sacrificing compatibility. Recent updates have expanded the app beyond simple CHD conversion by adding support for additional formats and utilities.

CHDroid v1.1.2 Changelog

According to developer Ottavio Miele, version 1.1.2 includes the following changes:

16KB Page Size Support

  • CHDMan has been recompiled with 16KB page size support.
  • This is required for future Google Play Store compatibility.
  • The developer also noted slightly improved conversion speeds during testing.

Custom Destination Folder

  • Users can now choose a different output folder instead of saving converted files in the original ROM directory.
  • This makes it easier to organize large ROM collections.

GameCube and Wii ISO.DEC Decoding

  • Added support for decoding GameCube and Wii .ISO.DEC files directly on Android.
  • The implementation is based on modifications to Sam Kenny’s tool and is designed for maximum performance.

ROM Patching (Beta)

  • New ROM patching functionality has been added.
  • Supported patch formats currently include:
    • IPS
    • EBP
    • UPS
    • BPS
    • APS
    • RUP/NINJA2
    • VCDIFF
  • The feature remains in beta and some patch types have not been fully tested.

The developer stated that IPS, UPS and BPS patches have been tested successfully so far.

You can get CHDroid directly on the Play Store, but it seems that the latest update is available only on GitHub.
