Rayman Origins Gets a Native Android Port

Rayman Origins is now playable natively on Android through a new unofficial recompilation of the Xbox 360 version.

The project, called Rayman Origins Recompiled, uses XenonRecomp to translate the original Xbox 360 PowerPC code into native ARM64 code. The game is not running through an Xbox 360 emulator or a Windows compatibility layer and the current version also uses a native Vulkan renderer (no xbox360 emulation involved).

Since the project is still young, version 0.4.0 is now available as an Android APK. It supports touch controls AND physical controllers, true widescreen rendering, audio, movies, and resolution scaling. The developer reports stable 60 FPS at full resolution on a Galaxy S23 with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and on a Galaxy A56 with Exynos 1580. Vulkan 1.1 support has also been added for older Adreno 6xx and Mali hardware.

A user on AndroidNativePorts reported a stable 60 FPS at the native 1.5K resolution on a Poco X8 Pro using the Dimensity 8500 Ultra and Mali G720 MC8. The user did notice some animation rendering issues, which is not particularly surprising at this stage.

There is one important requirement tho, the APK does not contain Rayman Origins itself.You will need your own Xbox 360 copy of the game. The Android app can import either a folder containing the required game files or a ZIP archive. PC, Wii, PlayStation Vita, and other releases cannot be used! The recompilation specifically targets the Xbox 360 executable.

Rayman Origins Recompiled is still a young project and it should get better. Native ARM64 execution, Vulkan rendering, touch controls, gamepad support, widescreen support and working game import – so go ahead and try it.
