MW2 Android v0.0.2 with Snapdragon fixes

OpenPort-Labs has released MW2 Android v0.0.2, fixing black terrain, missing graphics and flickering on Snapdragon devices. The October 13 update also lowers the stated Vulkan requirement to version 1.0.

This unofficial project is about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009) to Android through static recompilation. It builds on Paul Combal’s MW2 Recompiled, using XenonRecomp to translate Xbox 360 PowerPC instructions into C++ compiled for ARM64, alongside a Vulkan renderer.

What changed

According to the release notes, Adreno GPUs now use software decoding for certain compressed textures to address rendering problems. This will also potentially fix black screens, flickering foliage and missing geometry. Vulkan features are negotiated dynamically, with a fallback to older rendering paths.

A new mods/ overlay supports loose assets and scripts without repacking FastFiles. However, the published download is app-campaign-release.apk. Multiplayer features described in the README should be tested, so don’t take them as granted.

What you need

The release lists ARM64, Android 8+, Vulkan 1.0+, 4GB RAM minimum and around 7GB for game data, with 6GB RAM recommended. The README still lists Android 10 and Vulkan 1.1, so it’s a bit outdated.

You must supply your own unmodified Xbox 360 MW2 disc image, with the repository specifying version 1.0.557. Install the APK, select your ISO in the launcher and let it extract the files. Touch controls and physical controllers are supported.

Alongside Paul Combal and XenonRecomp, the project credits KisakCOD, IW4x, OpenAssetTools and libadrenotools for research, asset tools and custom driver loading.
