Metronoam turns monster fights into band practice

Metronoam is a free incremental rhythm game from Golden Ash Studios where drum beats become attacks. The developer describes it as Patapon meets Tap Titans, combining rhythmic combat with a growing party of musical heroes.

You tap four drum pads in time with a metronome, landing combos to damage enemies. As for progress, you hire heroes who contribute their own instruments, gradually building a backing track for your drumming.

Practice, with casualties

The more interesting part is that you can change what your band plays. The developer explains that every hero plays four notes, and all four can be edited.

The default arrangement uses A major, but changing those notes alters the music. By late game your assembled heroes are effectively playing a full song while you drum over it.

Free, with optional extras

Metronoam includes rewarded ads and in-app purchases. The developer says purchases mainly cover cosmetics and boosts, with no paywall preventing players from progressing through the game. We have not tested how progression feels without those extras.

The developer also disclosed AI use for the trailer and initial sprite templates, which were subsequently edited by hand. They say most of the code was written personally and hope to work with an artist on replacement artwork.

Metronoam is available through Google Play, with a browser version also listed on itch.io.
