Game Dev Tycoon
Have you ever wondered how it’s like to be a game developer? Wonder no more, you can test your skills right now in Game Dev Tycoon, a popular simulation game that was finally released on Android after enjoying huge success on almost all other platforms. Get creative and conquer the market, or at least try to.
Origins and Gameplay
Game Dev Tycoon was inspired by an older Japanese game called Game Dev Story. The developers at Greenheart Games built upon the formula and added couple of features themselves. Originally released in 2012 on PC, Game Dev Tycoon evolved quite a lot in the past 5 years. The game is now highly polished business simulator that is both fun to play and offers high replay value.
Your main goal is to create games. You start off in the 80’s by doing all the work yourself with almost no money and little to no skills. Over the course of the game as the CEO of the company you founded, you will have to grow your business, employ additional staff and train them in order to produce better games. To do this, you will have to explore variety of genres, topics and platforms. Find out which combo works best, debug and release the game for sale. If it turns out to be good, you get what you wanted – more money, if it turns out bad, try again.
Money is needed to grow your business. Get new, bigger offices, hire new staff with better development skills, buy production licenses or even develop your own platform later in the game.
The Android version of Game Dev Tycoon introduces a UI overhaul and new updated content. Updated storyline, new topics and the extremely difficult “pirate mode”. The pirate mode is in fact inspired by the original anti-piracy “feature” the developers implemented in the original game. Anyone who tried to pirate the game, would quickly went bankrupt in-game due to piracy rates.
