Two projects aim to improve Android gaming controls
Two community projects are gunning for a familiar Android gaming problem, making the controls perect, BEFORE you start playing. One focuses on custom touchscreen overlays, while Gaming Control Center aims to manage physical controllers, shortcuts and emulator saves.
Neither runs games itself. These are companion tools for your existing games and emulators.
Flexible touchscreen controller
Reddit user i8890321 has showcased a controller overlay intended to sit above standalone emulators. The idea came from wanting RetroArch-style customisation when using emulators with more restrictive touch controls.
The creator describes adjustable button positions and hitboxes, stick sensitivity, response curves and inner, outer and anti-deadzone settings. That could potentially fix situations where a virtual stick feels a bit sluggish or your thumb keeps missing the button.
The showcase compares the overlay with Azahar’s controls. However, we could not confirm a public download, final app name or complete compatibility list.
Gaming Control Center goes further
Gaming Control Center targets Android handhelds with controller grouping, remapping, hotkeys and save backups. The developer says several physical controllers can feed one virtual gamepad, potentially letting you switch between built-in controls and an external pad without reconfiguring the emulator.

Other advertised features include controller-to-touch mapping, turbo, macros and a save vault covering more than 45 catalogued emulators. Fan, lighting and frequency controls depend on the device used.
The October 19 announcement lists Android 13 or newer and Shizuku for the virtual controller service, without requiring root. The developer reports testing on Retroid Pocket 5, AYN Odin 2 and AYN Thor, among other devices.

A Google Play closed beta was announced as upcoming, with interested testers directed to Discord. The website’s alpha download returned 404 during our check, so confirm access with the developer. The testing version is described as free with ads, but a paid release is planned.
