Omni Player gets your classic mobile games on Android
Omni Player 0.5.8 was just updated, expanding its collection of supported games, adding titles including Age of Empires III, Driv3r, Duke Nukem 3D and The Sims 2: Pets. Released on October 23, the update also introduces some compatibility fixes for existing games.
The app brings selected BREW, DoJa, J2ME, ExEn and Zeebo/BREW games together through individual compatibility “bridges.”
Requirements
Omni requires Android 11 or newer and ARM64. Install the APK, select Load Game, choose a supported original game file and press Play. The bridges are bundled, but the original game executables, audio and level data are not.
Games containing multiple files should stay in their original ZIP, RAR or 7z archive. Supported standalone JAR and EXN files also work. ExEn prepares its platform runtime on first use and caches it for later offline use.
If you are updating, install the new APK over the old public version to retain your library and saves.
Ongoing development
The developer warns that supported games can still contain bugs or progression blockers. The older supported-edition list covers version 0.4.2, so consult the latest release notes for newer additions. N-Gage support is planned, but not included yet.
Wakkatobakka describes Omni as a solo project developed with AI assistance. Its component notices credit the Handyplay ExEn core and libraries including FFmpeg and libarchive. It is an interesting preservation project, though we have not tested this release ourselves.
