2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil Android port

The Xbox 360 version of 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil now has an unofficial Android port. Developer viverdonck-star released version 0.3 on November 4 and reports that matches run at 40 or 60 FPS on the AYN Odin 3. The APK is available now. You’ll need a controller and your own uncompressed Xbox 360 disc image to play.

The port builds on HossEz’s PC recompilation. ReXGlue translates the original Xbox 360 PowerPC code into C++ ahead of time. The Android project compiles that code for ARM64 and translates the console’s graphics commands to Vulkan.

The second half

Version 0.3 defaults to 720p at 40 FPS, with 30 FPS cutscenes and the device’s own graphics driver. There’s a reason to leave it there. On the Odin 3, the developer measured both CPU and GPU temperatures about 8°C lower during matches at 40 FPS than at 60. You can still select 60 FPS in the launcher.

The commentators are back, too. Their voices were getting lost in the center audio channel, so the port now mixes match audio down to stereo. The update also fixes a white haze before kickoff and lets you export your saves to a ZIP file.

The compatibility notes list Android 13 or newer, a 64-bit ARM processor, Vulkan 1.1 and at least 6 GB of RAM. Allow roughly 7 GB for the ISO and another 200 MB for the app. The developer recommends a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 or newer and lists only the Snapdragon 8 Elite Odin 3 as tested. The Retroid Pocket 5 and Snapdragon Flip 2 fall below that recommendation, so how well either handles a full match is still an open question.
