Vampire Survivors Vita 1.0 is out

The unofficial PS Vita port of Vampire Survivors reached version 1.0 on November 4. It now supports Legacy of the Moonspell and Tides of the Foscari if you own them on Steam. You can also import your PC save over Wi-Fi, so all those evenings spent unlocking characters can now live on your Vita.

Developer Federicoilgrandebardo rewrote the game logic from poncle’s older Phaser edition in C, using raylib, SDL2 and vitaGL to run it natively on the handheld. That explains both what made the cut and what didn’t. The port covers all 15 base stages and 41 characters from that edition. Later expansions such as Ode to Castlevania are not supported as of now.

The whip works again

Version 1.0 fixes a an inconvenient bug for a game about surviving crowds. Once your inventory filled up, weapons acquired late in a run could stop dealing damage. Evolved weapons were especially prone to it. The developer reports close to 60 FPS in normal play, including the DLC stages, but roughly 25 to 30 FPS when around 300 enemies are on screen with the busiest weapons.

To install it, you need your own Steam copy of Vampire Survivors. Under Properties → Betas, enter PhaserVersion2023 and select old-engine. The setup tool for Windows, macOS or Linux extracts your data and transfers about 125 MB to the Vita, or 165 MB with both DLCs. The port requires libshacccg.suprx for rendering. Install the VPK with VitaShell.

Already on 0.9? Install the new VPK and run the setup tool again, even if you don’t own either DLC. Your Vita save carries over. If you prefer to pick up from PC, Options → Data Recovery → Import save from PC accepts saves from either Steam edition and skips content the Vita doesn’t have.

There are also 190 trophies plus a platinum for players using NoTrpDrm. The plugin is optional. The project credits Wolff for the new LiveArea artwork, the trophy groundwork and the crash report that helped fix the credits screen.
