Winlator 11.1 Final Released With New Improvements
Winlator 11.1 Final has officially been released, bringing another round of improvements to one of Android’s most popular Windows compatibility layers. The update builds on features introduced in version 11 while addressing bugs reported by users over the past few weeks.
For Android gamers looking to run Windows games on their phones or handhelds, this release focuses on better controller support, improved compatibility and several QoL additions rather than introducing major new features. The release was shared by BrunoSX, the developer behind the official Winlator project.
What’s new
The final release includes a short list of fixes and improvements:
v11.1 Final
- Improved gamepad implementation
- Improved Vortek with fixes for exposed extensions and disabled problematic extensions on Mali GPUs
- Added an option to install Steam Legacy directly from the Start Menu
The update also includes everything introduced in the original 11.1 release:
- Reworked gamepad implementation for better compatibility and performance
- Improved experimental Gladio, allowing more OpenGL games to work, including Curse of the Dead Gods, The Binding of Isaac and ONI
- Added D7VK to the DDraw Wrapper
- Added new keyboard bindings for Volume Up and Volume Down
- Added an option to choose the gamepad model
- Updated XAudio components
- Fixed Steam client startup issues
Better support
While Winlator 11 introduced several large changes, version 11.1 Final mainly focuses on polishing the experience. The improved gamepad implementation should benefit users playing with controllers on Android devices, while Mali GPU owners may see better compatibility (finally), thanks to adjustments made to the Vortek graphics layer.
Steam users also receive a welcome QoL addition. Besides resolving startup issues introduced in previous versions, Steam Legacy can now be installed directly through the Start Menu, making setup easier for supported games.
The community has responded largely positively to the release, while continuing to compare it with alternatives such as Mobox, ExaGear-based projects and newer forks, noting that different devices and GPUs can still produce different results.
