NetherSX2 Turnip Updated V4 bundles newer drivers for Android PS2 emulation
NetherSX2 Turnip Updated V4 is now available, with three APK variants covering different Qualcomm Adreno GPUs. The community project bundles Turnip directly into NetherSX2, so Android PS2 players have another graphics driver to try without installing a separate driver package.
This release comes from thecrixux’s fork of nckstwrt’s NetherSX2-Turnip. V4 is the fork’s release number, not NetherSX2 4.0.

The driver comes inside the APK
According to the project documentation, each APK includes one specific Turnip driver. There is no menu for switching between several bundled drivers. You choose the APK that matches your GPU.
Underneath, a modified Vulkan shim loads the included libvulkan_freedreno.so library. In practical terms, the emulator’s Vulkan renderer uses the bundrled Turnip driver for its graphics work. This happens inside the app.
Which V4 package?
The release notes list three builds:
- 26.3.0-R6-6XX-7XX: bundles StevenMXZ’s Turnip build for Adreno 6xx and 7xx GPUs.
- Gen8-V37-8XX: bundles StevenMXZ’s Gen8 V37 for Adreno 840, 830, 829, 825 and 810.
- 710-720-722-v4.0: bundles Vauzi-17’s specialised driver for Adreno 710, 720 and 722.
For the last group, choose by the exact GPU model even though those chips also belong to the broader 7xx family.
Worth testing
The interesting part is the ability to try a different Vulkan driver with your existing PS2 games. Whether that improves rendering or performance needs testing on your own device.
The V4 notes provide no game benchmarks or measured FPS gains. A newer driver is another option, not a promise that X game will run faster on Y device. The project remains experimental, and compatibility varies between devices and builds. Back up your memory cards and settings before testing and compare the same game at the same resolution.
Just in case
For those who don’t know, Turnip is Mesa’s open source Vulkan driver for Qualcomm Adreno GPUs. These particular APKs target Adreno hardware, so they are not a driver upgrade for Mali devices.
