In Their Shoes Brings Everyday Stories to Life in Milan

We Are Muesli, an indie studio known for its thoughtful games, has revealed its latest project: In Their Shoes, a slice-of-life mumblecore narrative game now available to wishlist on Steam. The game is planned for PC and mobile in 2026 and has already picked up a nomination at A MAZE. 2025, the Berlin-based awards for independent and arthouse games.

Set in modern-day Milan, the game tells the everyday stories of seven characters through 49 short interactive experiences, called “Moments.” These Moments include everything from quiet thoughts to low-key conversations, each offering a glimpse into the characters’ personal lives. Choices happen mostly at your pace, but sometimes things get time-sensitive, revealing more about the people, their surroundings, and the things they’re dealing with.

“In Their Shoes is not about grand narratives or heroic arcs. It’s about the way people live, think, relate, and get through the day, inspired by a city very close to our hearts, Milan,” say Claudia Molinari and Matteo Pozzi, Game Directors at We Are Muesli.

“We wanted to make something honest and grounded, where even the smallest gesture has weight, and where you are made to pause and reflect about your actions and choices, about the feelings of each individual, how they perceive themselves, how they’re treated by others, and how they should ultimately react to the little big problems that affect them, as they navigate the relationships and the city around them.”
