Atuel Now Available on Google Play and Steam

Atuel, the award-winning surrealist documentary game from Argentine indie studio Matajuegos, has arrived on Steam and Google Play. Originally released on Itch.io in 2022, the game is now accessible to more players around the world with support for seven additional languages and full controller compatibility.

A Dreamlike Approach to Climate Awareness

Atuel stands out for blending documentary storytelling with interactive art. Developed alongside international filmmakers The 12.01 Project, the game takes you through the landscapes of western Argentina’s Cuyo desert. As you explore, you shift into various animals and even become the Atuel River itself, listening to real-life testimonies from historians, scientists, and locals.

These voices combine to tell a layered story about people’s connection to the land and the effects of climate change. It’s a contemplative half-hour experience that invites reflection, without relying on photorealism or traditional mechanics.

What to Expect

Atuel features stylized visuals, ambient soundscapes by Makunouchi Bento, and a structure that prioritizes emotion and memory over linear storytelling. With support for nine languages and a free price tag, the experience is more accessible than ever.
