ARMSX3 v0.1 Repository Goes Live

The ARMSX team has quietly published the first public ARMSX3 repository on GitHub. While there isn’t much code to explore just yet, the project already carries a v0.1 version tag, suggesting that development has officially begun behind the scenes.

For now, the repository is extremely barebones. There are no release binaries, no changelog and no documentation explaining the project’s goals. Still, the existence of a versioned repository indicates this is more than a placeholder and that the groundwork for the next generation of ARMSX is underway.

Differences From Upstream RPCS3

Although ARMSX3 is still in its infancy, the repository already outlines how it intends to diverge from upstream RPCS3. Rather than being a straight fork, the project is designed around Android and ARM64 from the ground up.

According to the repository, ARMSX3 introduces an Android specific platform layer, ARM64-focused optimizations, a mobile-friendly graphics backend and support for native Android input, audio, and system APIs. The project also aims to reduce desktop specific dependencies while keeping pace with upstream RPCS3 improvements.

In other words, the goal isn’t simply to make RPCS3 compile on Android. It’s to build a PlayStation 3 emulator that treats Android as a native platform instead of a secondary port. That’s an ambitious undertaking, especially considering the complexity of PS3 emulation, but it’s also what makes ARMSX3 one of the more interesting projects to watch over the coming months.

Still, for anyone who follows emulator development, a versioned repository is usually the first public indication that real work has started. It may be weeks or even months before ARMSX3 becomes something users can compile or test, but the project is officially on the radar. For now, at least bookmark this link.
