Warlords of Aternum Quick Review
Warlords of Aternum is a turn based strategy game by InnoGames. It’s free to play and available on both Android and iOS. The game was recently updated, bringing in a new social focused gameplay model. Now you can forge alliances, chat with friends create or join guilds for richer Orc bashing experience.

As mentioned above, the game relies on a simplified turn-based mechanics where you systematically clean Orc camps from the map. Once you clear the entire region, you are free to explore further. Although it does get more complicated later, Warlords of Aternum starts out very slowly. There are no ads or in-app purchases showed up your face at the very beginning and the first few missions will explain all you need to know about the gameplay mechanics. You start off with only one army and gather other heroes (units) later, as you conquer more land. Units can be upgraded and improved, have their own experience and level, items and perks.
Once you get familiar with the basics, which units counter other Orc units, you will start learning about the terrain. There are significant advantages if you take the higher ground (literally), or stash your units in forests which reduces the damage they receive. Let’s not forget about class bonuses too. For example archers will always have the upper hand when attacking mages, so strategically placing all your units at the beginning is quite essential.
The main map is quite big and some features (like the blacksmith for example) can be unlocked once a certain region is conquered. This is good because overwhelming new players with bunch of features they don’t yet understand is always confusing. Once you liberate the 3rd region, ships with goods will arrive at your home base in Dewport. Ships are carrying valued items that will help you progress faster. You can claim a cargo for free once in a while, or spend one of the in-game currencies to get it instantly. Speaking of currencies, gold coins and diamonds are essential for upgrades and improvements. The latter one being a premium currency, means that it can be obtained in special circumstances (achievemnts etc.) or bought from the in-app store.
Forge Alliances!
The latest update allows players to create their own alliances or join existing ones. On the world map, players will find the new Alliance HQ. In addition to a chat with other alliance members, the alliances compete in special leaderboards. Instead of explaining how guilds work and what to expect, the devs made a short video tutorial that will get you up to speed.
Warlords of Aternum can be downloaded for free from the link below. It checks all the right boxes for a turn-based game on the long run. Graphics are nice and now with the latest update, aside from the main single player campaign you can participate in PvP battles as well. If you feel like this is the right game for you and you like epic weapons and armor, upgrades and banners, go ahead and get it. Just a friendly reminder, the game won’t work offline at all.
