Ticket to Ride: Japan Expansion Now Available on Android and iOS

Marmalade Game Studio has released a new digital expansion for its popular board game adaptation, Ticket to Ride. For the first time, the Japan map from the physical game is now available digitally on iOS, Android, PlayStation, Xbox, and Steam, with a Nintendo Switch release coming soon.

The Ticket to Ride: Japan Expansion introduces a new gameplay feature centered around building the Bullet Train network. This shared route system requires players to work together to develop the network, which can be used by all to complete their tickets. However, players who avoid contributing to this joint effort will lose 20 points at the end of the game.

The expansion also brings two new characters:

  • Nakanishi Kimiko, a travel blogger who explores Japan’s seasonal festivals.
  • Gyōji Moriyama Isamu, a figure who brings elements of Japanese culture and tradition into the game.

In addition to the map and characters, players can unlock two new trains and carriages:

  • Ichi Eki Saki Train and Tsuki Sleeper Carriage: Designed for scenic journeys.
  • Isogaba Maware Train and Hayai Carriage: Built for speed across the tracks.

Bruna Silva, Head of Studio in London at Marmalade Game Studio, shared, “With springtime just around the corner, there’s no better time to pick up a new expansion to play with friends and family. Ticket to Ride: Japan encourages a unique style of collaborative competition; perfect for a family game on the couch.”

The expansion adds new strategic elements to the classic gameplay, combining cooperation and competition in a fresh setting across Japan.
