Ridge Racer “Slipstreams” on the Play Store

“Only” couple of months after the original release of Ridge Racer Slipstream on the iOS platform, Namco-Bandai decided to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the franchise by releasing the game on Android as well. This is the latest reincarnation of the famous series featuring high speed arcade racing, nice graphics and drifting at 150 MPH.

There are 12 different cars to race with, customizable to the bone to perform exactly as you expect them to. Tweak them, select some of the 6 different perks available and hit some of the game modes including career mode, arcade mode or head-to-head races where you can win some of the in-game currency needed for upgrades. There are 10 unique venues, 20 courses and 108 racing competitions to keep you busy for a while. The only thing missing is the multiplayer mode that Namco-Bandai promised to bring in near future. As this was announced when the game originally launched for iOS couple of months ago, this update is probably not too far away.

Ridge Racer Slipstream is a free to play title, supported by optional in-app purchases. As a result of the “console quality” graphics featured inside RRS, the system requirements are not exactly “mid-range” friendly. The game requires you to have Android 4.0 or later, 1 GB of RAM (minimum), a dual-core CPU and dedicated GPU using one of the following chipsets:

-Tegra 3 (Nvidia)
– Adreno 225 (Qualcomm)
– PowerVR SGX-544 (MediaTek, others)
– Mali-400 MP4 (Samsung, MediaTek, others)
