[News] Assassin’s Creed Pirates sailing towards Android

Ubisoft announced their latest stand-alone game from the Assassin’s Creed universe that involves treasure hunting and naval combats. Assassin’s Creed Pirates will be released this fall as a smartphone / tablet exclusive title for both Android and iOS devices.  Yarrr.

Assassin’s Creed Pirates shares the same game-world from Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag that took place during the Golden Age of piracy in the Caribbean, but provides a separate storyline that  follows Alonzo Batilla as young inexperienced captain, climbing the ranks among the fearsome pirates in search for the mysterious treasures of La Buse. During the gameplay, players will face Templars, Assassins and some of the famous pirates like Edward Thatch (Blackbeard) and his mentor Benjamin Hornigold.

The game focuses on real time naval battles, ship upgrades, crew management and treasure hunting with added role playing elements. Apart from the main story, players can also complete side-quests, gather quests perks, chase the achievements or freely roam through the open-world environment.

Assassin’s Creed Pirates will use a brand new 3D engine developed exclusively for this game that should provide “smooth gaming experience”. While the selling price remains a mystery, Ubisoft confirmed that there will be no in-app purchases of any kind. The game will be released this Fall on both platforms.  Sid Meier’s Pirates! clone or something completely different? We will have to wait for a while longer, or at least for the gameplay trailer in order to find out.
